Day 1 Washington to Oregon–From Sad Good Byes to Goonies

Outside Finches
Farewells are never easy. I begin my journey leaving behind close friends in tears and overwhelming emotions. Last time I did this was moving to Vancouver from Toronto over 15 years ago. This time, it's to NYC for a fresh new start. I'm road tripping with my friend Paul for the next two weeks.

We crossed the border quickly and began our drive south through Washington State with a goal to reach Oregon on our first night. The drive through Washington was a bit monotonous with rain, strip malls, factory outlets most of the way and some annoying Seattle traffic all the way to Olympia. Good thing we had some road trip CDs.
Moments after crossing into Oregon
After about 8 hours of driving we stopped in Astoria Oregon, the site where the movie Goonies was filmed. We found a motel, grabbed some Mexican food and look forward to checking out the sites from the movie. Tomorrow's goal is to drive down the coastline all the way down to California.
