Day 2– Oregon Coast–Astoria to Florence

We got a chance to see Astoria during daylight. Our first objective was to find where they filmed Goonies. After consulting a local comic shop (who else would you ask?) we ventured around town to find the house and jail from the movie.

Todays goal is to drive down the Oregon coast on the 1o1 and check out the cities and towns along the way. It's an amazingly beautiful drive that you have to see for yourself. If you like Tofino, you'll love the Oregon coast. Each town we came across had their own unique personality, a few were quite deluxe while others were a little rough around the edges.

The sandy beaches ran as far as you can see.

The drive from Astoria down to Oceanside was lush greenery and bright floral bushes. I suggest if you want to see the coast of Oregon, drive down the I5 to Portland than cut over to Oceanside. The scenery was breathtaking and there's lots of beaches you'll want to pull over and take a look. Some of the look out points along the highway had a really high vantage point looking at miles of coast line.

We wanted to go camping on this trip and excited about the idea of staying in a yurt. They're kinda like a mix between a teepee and little cabin. I've never seen one before but became obsessed with staying in one by the sand dunes. We drove up and down the highway for a couple of hours toward the latter part of the day looking for an available one. Sadly, none were available, instead we went back north to Florence and checked into a motel.

Tomorrow, we'll drive down to California.
